Taking lanes away from cars and giving them to cyclists isn't an easy sell anywhere in Atlanta, but Buckhead residents along Peachtree Road are putting up a bigger fight than most. The Peachtree Road Transformation Project, which hoped to make the thoroughfare safer for bikes and pedestrians, came across enough resistance from residents at a recent meeting that plans were sent back to the drawing board and delayed indefinitely. One resident commented, "It's scary to put a 17-pound bicycle up against a 4,000-pound car." Someone should tell her the whole goal is not to let your giant SUV make contact with the bike in the first place. [BuckheadView]
