It Ain't Easy Bein' Green: Eco-Friendly Home's $60K Price Drop

New, 3 comments

With light finishes, an airy floorplan and wrap-around porches on both levels, this four-bedroom, four-bath home looks like it belongs near a beach rather than in Brookhaven. The listing claims it is "one of the few truly 'green' homes in Atlanta," and the 12-year-old house designed by Allison Ramsey Architects has been featured on HGTV for its design and eco-friendly features. The 4,275-square-foot home has sustainable features such as solar panels (visible in the aerial image), a geothermal heat pump, a rain-harvest system and energy efficient doors, windows and systems. The maple flooring with cherry inlay, plentiful skylights and doors to outdoor spaces from the two master suites contribute to its openness. The one-bedroom carriage house in the back has its own full kitchen, and there's also a three-car garage (though odds are, if you're concerned enough about the environment to buy this home, you don't own three cars). Despite its beachy vibe and green status, the home just dropped its asking price from $959,000 to $899,000, which still ends up being two or three times the price of most of the surrounding homes.
