Just when you think city rankings couldn't be any more unflattering, Animal Planet has gone and slotted Atlanta as No. 6 on its "Top 10 Worst Rat Cities in the World." After the Great Recession left ATL awash in foreclosures and abandoned buildings, the rat population scurried higher, to the point we now beat London and Paris (but fall well short of the obvious champion of rodent inhabitation, New York City). Maybe we're blind, but the most visible vermin that come to mind in Ratlanta are those that frequent the tracks at Five Points MARTA Station. [Atlanta magazine/AP]
