Phipps Makeover Has Concierges, Wifi and Fancy Chandeliers

New, 7 comments

Phipps Plaza is 45 years old, and like any fashionista, she understands the importance of keeping up with the times when it comes to style. Right now, she's been wearing the same damn thing since 1992. So while dark mahogany finishes and classic chandeliers are lovely, it's time to ditch those dated duds. This summer, Simon Property Group will give the high-end shopping destination a modern makeover that will include a repainted interior, updated railing system, "hotel-like concierge service center" and warm wood accents. New restaurants, new retailers (Johnny Was, Kate Spade and Peek children's boutique, for example) and "luxury" seating areas with wifi and chargers will also be added to the 831,000-square-foot, tri-level mall.

Outside, the facade facing Peachtree Road will see a new entrance, new landscaping and a streetscape of luxury storefronts. Both the parking areas and the mall itself will be upgraded to energy-efficient LED lighting. Simon hopes to have the renovations completed by the time the flood of holiday shoppers strikes. A 164-room AC by Marriott hotel and a 319-unit apartment complex called The Domain at Phipps Plaza are also in the works on the property. When it's all said and done, lovely old Phipps won't look a day over 30.
