The Castleberry Hill Neighborhood Association is taking a stance against what leaders call shady surface parking lot operators who profit from Georgia Dome events. The group recently voted unanimously against a proposed zoning change by developer Herman J. Russell, Sr. that would allow for a substantial swath of land around the new Atlanta Falcons stadium to be paved for event parking. An opposition leader notes that surface parking lots "effectively destroy the neighborhoods surrounding sports arenas by isolating them behind seas of asphalt." [Saporta Report]
