The Hooper Alexander Elementary School on Memorial Drive met the wrecking ball last week, becoming the third DeKalb County school — and second in Decatur — to be returned to greenspace as officials ponder what should become of the land. The facilities join 10 vacant and closed DeKalb School System buildings besieged in recent years by district cutbacks, falling enrollment and redistricting. So there's some land to go around.
