From $135K to $399K in Five Months With This Green Makeover

The current owner landed this 1925 four-bedroom for just $135,000 back in February. After a five-month, eco-friendly renovation, it's now asking $399,000, down from $419,000 last week. Green features touted in the listing include natural Italian mineral paint and 12-foot-plank pine floors from managed local forests with tung oil finish (from the seeds of the tung tree, obvi). The hipsterrific backsplash is made from recycled computer screens, though you'd never know by looking at it. The 2,100-square-foot house's energy efficiency is helped along by new double-paned windows, Energy Star appliances, fresh insulation and a dual-zoned HVAC with NEST thermostats. The toilets in the three bathrooms are dual-flush. Changes abound in every room, including a refinishing of the original fireplace, which seems an unnecessary alteration.
