Diversity Discussion

New, 14 comments

According to a study presented at the most recent Decatur City Commissioners meeting, Decatur is becoming less diverse and more white all the time. Between 1990 and 2010, the city's white population climbed from 60 percent to 73 percent while its black population fell from almost 40 percent to 20 percent. During that same period, the trend for the Atlanta metro area was the opposite, with the black population increasing from 25 to 30 percent and the white population dropping from 70 to 55 percent. While Decatur's racial diversity leaves something to be desired, its percentage of same-sex households is four times the national average. A full report is being prepared and will be ready by the month's end. [Decaturish]
