A thought-provoking new Saporta Report editorial suggests that the key to getting Atlantans to use public transport is to make parking more expensive and less common. Community activist Matthew Garbett makes the case that as long as driving is cheaper and faster than transit, people will continue to rely on their cars, no matter how comprehensive MARTA becomes. He suggests banning the creation of new surface parking, removing minimum parking requirements on new construction projects and increasing business fees for park for hire lots. It could work... or it could cause city-wide chaos. [Saporta Report]
