Georgia vs. Atlanta

New, 4 comments

Sick of being asked if he was from Atlanta every time he told someone he was from Georgia, a Mental Floss writer did some math to determine the odds that a Georgian would actually be from the state's capital. When using the population of the actual city, New York City, Anchorage, Honolulu and Albuquerque topped the list, each accounting for more than 25 percent of their state's population. Atlanta didn't even warrant a mention; only 5 percent of Georgians live inside Atlanta's city limits. But when taking the entire metro area into account, the story changes significantly: About 55 percent of all Georgians live in the Atlanta metro area. Maybe asking someone from Georgia if they're from Atlanta makes sense after all. [Mental Floss]
