Nothing captures the spirit of the St. Regis in Buckhead like a random MC Hammer reference. But "You Can't Touch This" sums up the theme of a press release distributed this week by The Residences at the St. Regis Atlanta, which is smashing sales records because, as one official puts is, "There are many high rise buildings in Atlanta and then there is the St. Regis." About 35 pricey condos have sold above the five-star hotel — at an average of more than $800 per square foot. To put it another way, that's tantamount to selling your 1,000-square-foot condo for $800,000, which would probably never happen in Atlanta, unless your doorknobs are made from unicorn horns and your drapes from mermaid hair. In May, a relatively small 17th floor condo sold for $2.9 million, marking the second highest sales price ever for a resale condo in Atlanta, officials said. That unit was north of 3,000 square feet. Imagine what the 12,000-square-foot sprawler with five bedrooms would fetch.
The condos encompass the top 14 floors of the Beaux Arts-style tower, each featuring "private outdoor terraces lending extraordinary vistas of downtown Atlanta, the greenery of Buckhead and the mountains beyond," officials tease. Lucky for us all, 17 residences are still available. They range from $2.6 million, up to $9.5 million. The latter condo would crack Atlanta's top seven most expensive homes —i.e., sprawling estates — if it sold at that price.
But hell, St. Regis condos don't even have to be finished to move. Last year, two unfinished shells — totaling 11,715 square feet — sold for $8.3 million. "The St. Regis Atlanta has the same ingredients that make apartment buildings in New York and London so successful — the best location and tremendous flexibility in floor plates to create your dream home in a building supported by five-star amenities and services from the St. Regis," Douglas McMahon, senior managing director of Tavistock Group, said in the release.
Beyond the unyielding St. Regis prestige, additional perks of living here include "the most spectacular pool piazza in Atlanta with a Jacuzzi, a full service Remède spa, and the most exquisite event and meeting space in town," officials assert. For most Atlantans, all it would take to attain this is extraordinary gambling luck. Come on, Keno!
