For $899K, Contempo Swagger Meets Classic in Decatur

New, 3 comments

This 1938 house in Decatur proves that fancy doesn't have to be stuffy and ostentatious. Renovated in 2012, it flows like an HGTV darling and melds modern flair and classic sensibility — especially for buyers who simply adore chandeliers, and who like to take their meals upon cushioned upholstery. Priced at $899,000, this is the territory of the deep-pocketed, of course, but it's a lot of bang for that buck (nearly 3,000 square feet and four bedrooms). There's a crisp, contemporary kitchen with chef-grade qualities and espresso hardwoods all over the place. The butler's pantry — with its built-in icemaker, wine fridge and dark walls — could be described as "studly." Moving outside, to the al fresco dining area, the giant, tulip-shaped fixtures on the concrete table might be a tad extreme, but the beefy, ornate fireplace is lovely enough. You'll find the house in the Ponce de Leon Heights neighborhood, a couple of blocks from Dancing Goats Coffee and Farm Burger, so it boasts a Walk Score of 77 and those coveted Decatur schools. And boasting of any sort could be warranted here.
