The Downtown W's Epic Journey to Finally Being 'Sold Out'

New, 2 comments

Officials have gleefully announced that the W Atlanta Residences downtown are sold out — finally. It's been about eight years since properties first went on sale at the shiny glass tower, which sits prominently at the kink in The Connector downtown. According to an exceptionally exuberant press release, all 73 units — though the press release also says 76 units — in the building have finally sold. The final unit to go was the recently listed, fully furnished two-story penthouse, which sold around the asking price of $1.7 million. But the luxury units didn't always command top dollar.

The W's condos had the misfortune of arriving on the market at precisely the wrong time. During the depths of the Recession, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit could be scooped up for the bargain price of $299,900. (For context: a one-bedroom condo recently went for $729,000, albeit a large one). But affordability went the way of helicopters from the building's heliport as the final units sold, including the most expensive one-bedroom unit ever sold in Atlanta, and what was once the priciest rental in dowtown's history.
