The Buckhead super-block bounded by Peachtree, Lenox and Wieuca roads and Phipps Boulevard has become almost unrecognizable in the past year. Gone are the forests on the eastern and northern edges of the site around the Park Avenue Tower, replaced by construction sites for the AC Hotel and The Domain at Phipps, a new apartment complex because Post Alexander, Cyan and SkyHouse weren't enough for the neighborhood. At the same time, the 1990s-era facade of Phipps Plaza has vanished, obscured in a modernizing renovation that's purely cosmetic, as many aging Buckhead beauties undergo at midlife. With the AC Hotel slated to open in the spring — thanks in no small part to some early morning construction — and the work on Phipps set to be completed by the end of the year, the transformations are quickly become a reality.
