Offering lavish and colossal sky-palaces like Atlanta had rarely seen before, The Residences at The St. Regis Atlanta in Buckhead climbed into the local condo market in 2009, just as the economy was swirling the proverbial toilet. Bad timing. But it's a sign of a resurgent city that just seven of the St. Regis' 43 units remain unsold — at prices that'll make Average Joe Condo Buyer's head spin. The building's sales mark the highest prices per square foot in Atlanta history (on average, $968/sf), according to atlantaSKYrise blog. Take Unit 1940, for example, which closed at $4 million recently with almost 5,000 square feet of unlivable, unfinished nothingness. Of the remaining seven homes, each is priced over $3 million and spans for more than 3,500 square feet — and three of those suckers aren't even finished.
