Downtown Decatur Grocery Store Stymied by Hilly Terrain

New, 1 comment

Downtown Decaturites hoping for a full-blown grocery store in Cousins Properties' planned mixed-use project can blame a cursed hill for their disappointment. Decatur government and Cousins officials have butted heads for months over what should become of the five-acre Callaway Building property near the square. And now, one city official told the AJC that a full-scale grocery probably won't work on the site because the topography and layout make it tough for large delivery trucks. (Not everyone is convinced the topography explanation holds water). Decatur leaders are pulling for more contemporary office space on upper floors, given that the city's last new office building was erected when the first George Bush was in office.
