Ponce City Market's decision to implement paid parking (from $1 for a ½ hour or less, up to $20 for extended valet services) has been divisive, to say the least. Proponents of the fees say that paid parking is only fair and could help encourage alternate means of transportation around the new urban hub; meanwhile, detractors believe the fees are less than reasonable (especially for retail and restaurant employees, or those wanting to grab a quick bite) and cause parking issues in surrounding areas where PCM patrons seek free parking. PCM officials have reached out to clarify exactly where they're coming from, and how parking at the mixed-use behemoth can be made easier — if not avoided altogether. It's also worth noting, as officials did, that the first $1 of parking fees for people who use the ParkMobile app is donated to the Atlanta Beltline.
On the biking front, PCM officials point out that more than 400 bike-parking spaces are dotted throughout the property. A complimentary bike valet is available just inside the PCM walls, via the Beltline bridge extension. Speaking of, that Beltline connection is designed to encourage "visitors to walk and bike to and from the property," officials said.
The property offers 30-minute complimentary parking spaces near the front entrance of the main courtyard. But as many have pointed out, competition for those gratis spots can be intense.
Officials say the ParkMobile app is simple to use. After downloading, it requires PCM visitors to enter their license plate and payment method. Repeat visitors need only park their vehicle, launch the app, enter "222" as the zone number, and then a mobile alert will send notification when paid time is about to expire, with an option to extend the stay.
And on the subject of tenant parking, PCM officials sent this: "Complimentary shuttle to and from MARTA (is) offered to office and retail employees and residents seven days a week from 5:30 a.m. to midnight."
For anyone wondering what the exact breakdown of PCM parking is, well, here you go:
