Giant, lighted billboards are often a point of contention and consternation among neighbors unenthused about their excesive shininess. But in the heart of Buckhead, where Roswell Road forks off Peachtree Road at Loudermilk Park, two longstanding — and frequently loathed — billboards are slated to get spruced up. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Meltzer Properties hopes to add on to the existing two-story retail building that contains the billboards, providing more attractive leasing options for tenants.
While the billboards have long been regarded as eyesores, consuming the second floor of an old brick building at the front corner of the Buckhead Atlanta development, they reached a new level of infamy when they were hacked earlier this year, displaying porn for the world to see. Likened to "a dent on a Ferrari" by Meltzer, the billboards and building are desperately in need of some intervention.
Plans call for a 6,000-square-foot addition topped by a green sloping roof, providing street-level retail along Bolling Way and Peachtree Road. Designed by plexus r+d — a local architecture firm known for their quirky designs — the building could feature 12-foot ceilings and a high level of visibility on Atlanta's main thoroughfare. Just, hopefully, no more porn.
