Designer for Atlanta United's New Cobb Digs Revealed

New, 4 comments

GOAALLLLLLLL! Atlanta United has picked an architecture firm and a design direction for their new suburban headquarters and practice facility, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The MLS team, set to start playing games in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017, selected Atlanta-based tvsdesign to create their Cobb County base. With a storied history in Atlanta, tvsdesign will launch into the design process with a vision guided by team president Darren Eales's experience with Tottenham Hotspur in London. With projects like the National College Football Hall of Fame, the Georgia Aquarium and the Georgia Dome in the tvsdesign portfolio, expect some big ideas.

Until just six weeks ago, plans called for the team to construct their headquarters complex off Memorial Drive in DeKalb County. However, county leaders called foul as mounting cost estimates soured the deal. The loss was a major gain for Cobb County, with the team announcing their intentions to utilize a backup site in Marietta.

The vision calls for a high-tech, inviting space with room for expansion, and work is already full-steam ahead in preparation for the March 2017 team debut. First step: to gain approval for the development from the Marietta City Council, who owns the land the team wants to build on.
