Mixed-Use Mania

Exercising what seems like caution, Sandy Springs officials have tabled a vote on whether to allow for the construction of two mixed-use developments near the planned City Center. The projects by MCRT Investments Inc. and Camden USA would bring a combined 766 apartments and 43,300 square feet of retail space to nine acres along Roswell Road, replacing existing, decades-old shopping centers. While the density aligns with the city's plans for the new downtown zone, the Planning Commission balked at Camden's relative lack of retail space — and thus, the vote for approval has been deferred to next month.
