It's true that a developer is planning to transform the property and parking lot around Manuel's Tavern, the iconic Poncey-Highland watering hole, into a mixed-used development, possibly up to four-stories tall — but keep your pitchforks at bay! The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that Green Street Properties is under contract for 1.6 acres that includes the century-old structure, but officials with the company and the landmark bar sound adamant that the Manuel's magic won't vanish; plans call for refurbishing the tavern and then incorporating it into the new project, which could begin construction in early 2016, pending zoning. Manuel's will close during renovations but hopes to reopen to celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. [Photo: Eater]
