Unique Buckhead Condo a Bargain for Haters of Amenities

New, 13 comments

A condo for people who dig the parking-garage aesthetic of exposed, ribbed-concrete ceilings has hit the market near Peachtree Battle. The two-bedroom, two-ensuite-bathroom unit recently underwent a major overhaul, which judging by other units listed in the circa-1955 building, it probably needed. The slightly industrial outcome is certainly unique. The kitchen and bathrooms are nice, and with hardwood floors throughout, the unit flows well, though it's hard to drastically improve upon the enclosed spaces of a midcentury building. In an attempt to open up the unit as much as possible, the new design includes spaces where the ceiling is cut away to reveal the concrete structure. Unfortunately, the building is located in that awkward area of Peachtree Road that's disconnected from the hearts of Midtown and Buckhead and nowhere near a MARTA station. While the $169,900 asking price might seem low for the neighborhood, the HOA fees of $739 (!) a month are steep for a low-rise complex lacking a pool, enclosed parking and other amenities of nearby buildings a half-century newer.
