Two well-known Atlanta festivals are playing tug-of-war with Piedmont Park right now. The longstanding Atlanta Arts Festival and the much-larger Music Midtown have both filed plans to overtake the city's signature green space the weekend of Sept. 19 this year, which means city officials will have to pick one. The quiet, artsy fest filed a permit application way before the raucous, musical blowout; but if cash will tip the scales, consider that Music Midtown paid $400,000 for its permit last year — or 80 times more than its competition.
