The one-time king of the suburbs continues to show an appetite for modern design. John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods has finished 11 townhomes near downtown Decatur, and they've sold half of them, a listing agent reports. As with his Midtown condo plans across from the High Museum, Wieland's design leans more contemporary than he's known for here, at least on the inside. (That's presuming these photos show the actual unit being offered, because it'd be rather deceptive if not.) The townhome in question is a relatively big daddy at 2,800 square feet, with four bedrooms and a $652,000 price tag. Each unit is four-stories tall, with an elevator option and what they're touting as "penthouse sky terraces." The exterior design, per the agent, honors the history and character of the surrounding neighborhood. The location is a few blocks southeast of downtown, near Kimball House, which prompts a commendable Walk Score of 76. Makes you wonder if the company's townhome plans for the Old Fourth Ward and Reynoldstown will leave Lilburn even further behind.
