At 1 p.m. this Saturday, the doggie doors will officially swing open on Atlanta's newest green space, an off-leash poochie playland in a high-profile place. It marks the first time in history the Georgia Department of Transportation has donated land (in this case, two forlorn and empty acres along Freedom Park, just east of downtown) for a dog park. A grassroots effort by dog-loving Old Fourth Ward neighbors brought the project to fruition, and future plans include splash pads and water fountains for Fido.
