Demolition crews are reducing the fire-ravaged Garden Hills strip shopping center on Peachtree Road to rubble this week, to be replaced by a "grassy patch" for the foreseeable future, BuckheadView reports. Included in the demo is the long-vacant but once-beloved Garden Hills Cinema art theater, a single-screen house from 1950. No matter what developers decide will replace the strip, the website opines, the cinema's fall into ruin and ultimate destruction mark "a sad ending for a theater that had played an important role in the cultural history of the community for nearly 60 years."
