This Modernized East Lake Cottage Summons $499K

New, 8 comments

With oversized eaves and clean long lines, this dramatic East Lake overhaul is invoking the three-name inspiration (rhymes with "Stank Droid Fight") that makes armchair architects bristle. Indeed, not much of the standard-issue, 1940 cottage that forms this home's bones remains visible. It was scooped up in foreclosure last summer for $162,000, and its beefed-up, four-bedroom reincarnation is asking $499,000 — a price that includes many trappings today's home shopper covets. These include a "matchless spa-like shower," marble countertops, an "immeasurable master suite," opaque barn-style doors and designer fixtures. The listed square footage (1,448) must reflect the home's pre-overhaul, pre-second-story size. Or maybe the master was so "immeasurable" they left it out? The listing touts walkability to McKoy Park and Oakhurst Village (retail/restaurant options are said to be coming to East Lake's own little downtown, too), but that doesn't mend the wanting Walk Score of 44. When your house is "inspired by the brilliance" of you-know-who, per the listing, maybe leaving isn't that appealing anyhow.
