For $495K, Lake Claire Overhaul gets Crafty with Addition

New, 17 comments

This 1925 cottage in Lake Claire has undergone a mutation rarely seen in Atlanta. To add a second-floor master suite with vaulted ceilings, the modest little house on DeKalb Avenue sprouted something like a porte-cochère and garage-apartment hybrid. The result is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom flip described by the listing agent as "absolutely stunning" and priced at $495,000, which doesn't seem too exorbitant for the neighborhood. (The square footage of 1,144, as listed by Zillow, must reflect the home's size prior to the addition, right?) A glance around the interior shows abundant hardwoods, a clawfoot tub, an upstairs balcony off the master bedroom and one weirdly stretched-out fireplace. The ego-boosting, automatic front gate is a nice touch that could help keep traffic noise at bay. Back in May, this place sold for $150,000, but a buyer who doesn't mind quirkiness would get what the agent calls an "almost new house."
