Potential Exodus

New, 9 comments

ESPN reports that a bidder for the resurgent and for-sale Atlanta Hawks could be interested in uprooting the team, like the Braves, to "an Atlanta suburb" if he's able to buy the NBA franchise. The bidder in question — Lionsgate Entertainment chairman Mark Rachesky, an experienced investor — is reportedly buddy-buddy with Atlanta Braves controlling owner John Malone, which has some city officials worried about another pro team's exodus from downtown. The sale could finalize this summer, and if the Hawks should fly the coop before 2017, they'd be on the hook for $75 million to Philips Arena. [Base image: brandthunder.com]
