Beltline Beat

Tangible work on the Beltline's Westside Trail has begun, as crews slice and dice a 100-year-old railroad bridge that spans Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. 11Alive's Commuter Dude, Jerry Carnes, reports that the tired old cargo bridge (unused for three decades) has been putting area residents in harm's way for years; the bridge's abutment literally brings the sidewalk to an end and forces pedestrians to walk in the street. Time for a new slogan? "The Beltline: We'll Save Your Life." [Rendering via Beltline.org]
