Demolition Watch

New, 6 comments

The Atlanta Preservation Center has sent an email blast alerting members of the impending demolition of Glenridge Hall in Sandy Springs and providing a link to a petition to save the 1929 mansion. While the home falls outside the normal purview of the Preservation Center, they and other groups have taken note of the building's saga since owners announced they tend to bring it "death with dignity" by smashing it to smithereens. With demolition permits valid, starting this morning, and with Atlanta's reticence for preservation, local activists are planning a demonstration this morning along Abernathy Road, with the promise of substantial press coverage, hoping that a last-minute campaign might result in a less-destructive resolution.
