Downtown Rising

In a move reminiscent of Times Square's permanent street closures, except on a drastically smaller scale, the City of Atlanta has brought in planters to keep car traffic out of the northernmost block of Broad Street. Downtown watchdog/cheerleader ATL Urbanist notes that the city plans to eventually turn the block into a plaza, paving the way for who-knows-what: In-street dining? GSU keggers? Street hockey? Homeless encampments? "It's like Streets Alive every day!" observes the blog. "But just for one block." [Info, photo: atlurbanist.com]
