Streetcar Pushback

New, 22 comments

The reception for the so-called "Crosstown Peachtree Line," a proposed 13-mile streetcar route from Fort McPherson to Lenox Square, fell somewhere between skeptical and ice cold at a recent meeting of The Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods. While Beltline officials assured attendees that the business community supports such a line, they were reminded of how Buckhead residents roundly rejected a similar plan before the Recession, and that Buckhead Coalition President and former Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell has long opposed the idea. According to BuckheadView, Massell is concerned the constant presence of metal construction plates on Peachtree would prevent a streetcar from using the route. [Image: BV]
