Wedged beneath Buckhead and west of Howell Mill Road, Underwood Hills is an intown nabe that often slips under the radar. But it can be fertile ground for reasonably affordable homes with old-school curb appeal and at least some modicum of walkability. Take, for instance, this three-bedroom charmer from 1940, a testament to good staging and listing photos taken at exactly the right time of day. It's about a block from The District at Howell Mill, home to Cosmopolitan Walmart and such, and for $299,000 it's an entrée into Buckhead schools. The single full bathroom isn't doing the house any favors, but note the unfinished basement and attic with loads of potential — and the back deck fit for a Fourth of July blowout. As is, this place is a tad itsy-bitsy (with 1,222 square feet), but anyone who's feeling cramped can stroll the deep backyard, which apparently never ends.
