The good news first: Atlanta's new residential construction in 2015 has surged 36 percent over the same time period last year, placing the Big Peach among the top markets for construction growth in the country, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. But numbers from April show that Atlanta saw less than half the residential construction spending as Lone Star competitors Dallas and Houston. Census data say multifamily construction is accounting for about 29 percent of all building permits in Atlanta, which hardly addresses the city's housing shortage.
