Pool Time

Old Fourth Ward Councilman Kwanza Hall has introduced legislation to reopen the Martin Luther King Jr. Natatorium near the King Center in a new 1.77-acre location on Hilliard Street. The 1978 indoor pool was shuttered in 2012 after it was deemed unsafe due to structural issues. The proposed location is two blocks from a streetcar stop, near the recently renovated Selena Butler Park Rec Center and close to King Memorial MARTA and the 300-apartment, transit-oriented mixed-use development planned there. The land would be donated to the city by the Atlanta Housing Authority and the project would be completed with part of the 2015 infrastructure bonds. [Atlanta INtown]
