How Downtown Atlanta's Newest Hotel Turned Out

The latest addition to downtown's hotel roster appears to have reached its goal of being an upscale apartment community's doppelgänger. The Hyatt house Atlanta/Downtown debuted last month — about two years after the lodge was initially pitched — consuming a former parking lot kitty-corner to the Georgia Aquarium, at the cusp of the Luckie Marietta District. From the project's inception, officials have said the 150-room, extended-stay Hyatt would offer the finishes and general vibe of a pricey apartment complex, and these initial photos (and some online reviews) would support that. Longtime development observers might recall that this site, prior to the recession, was supposed to be the home of Aquarius, a sleek, 500-foot, wind-powered condo tower that never came of age.
