Music Midtown Unveils Schedules, Map, New Stage

New, 9 comments

The Grand Poobah of Atlanta music festivals is back next week with a modified layout and the promise of dueling performances. Music Midtown 2015 will see the introduction of a fourth stage near Piedmont Park's Lake Clara Meer, doubling the number of performance areas the festival had during its 2011 comeback headlined by Coldplay.

This year also marks the return of the overlapping-headliner format. Which means that Elton John and Drake will both cap off Friday night, on main stages next to 10th Street that face each other, but on opposite sides of the park. And Saturday pits Sam Smith against Van Halen in the same positions. The overlapping performances are a common crowd-dispersing measure at major music festivals, but it could present more difficult decisions for concert-goers. Such as: Do I watch Panic! at the Disco or Run The Jewels? Hall & Oates or Billy Idol? Et cetera …
