80 Days & 2 Price-Chops Later, Decatur Craftsman Sits Idle

New, 22 comments

Decatur's appetite for old but revived Craftsman houses apparently knows some limits after all. Case in point: this handsome 1914 bungalow the listing agent touts as being "on one of the best streets in Decatur." After 80 days on the market, its price is $615,000 and falling, which begs the question: What gives? It's located around the corner from Agnes Scott College and a few blocks south of downtown Decatur, but the Walk Score of 50 isn't exactly a blessing. Perks include a detached two-car garage, screened porch, bonus room, finished basement, the arts-and-crafts flair in some rooms, ample back deck and a well-kept, not-too-big yard. The bedroom/bathroom grand total (three and two) is likely a sticking point, though with 2,758 square feet, a tiny house it is not. The home's listing life began at $649,000 back in June, and it was last chopped by $14,000 early last month. The agent notes the lot is primed for an expansion, but with a price north of $600,000 already, that route might be a budget-buster.
