How Far a Cool $1 Million Goes in Oakhurst Right Now

New, 15 comments

A stone's throw from the Oakhurst Village, a nearly 4,300-square-foot bellwether is rising that illustrates just where this part of town is going — or has already gone. Billed as a "masterpiece of design and craftsmanship," this traditional-style sprawler by Stoney River Homes is understated in all but its dimensions, with six bedrooms, five bathrooms and more than one family room. The price is 100 bucks shy of $1.1 million, in a neighborhood where million-dollar listings hardly shock anymore (a slightly larger home down the street closed for $1.04 million this year). Perks include a massively open main floor, a screened-in porch with brick fireplace and a huge kitchen with premium appliances (but just one piddly sink?). The listing promises that buyers can close the deal here by year's end. And property records could illustrate just how competitive this flank of Decatur is right now: The previous house on this site was listed late last year for $325,000 and ended up selling for $45,000 over that — a 14 percent jump. Yowza.
