Back in 2014, Atlanta's architectural master John Portman bought back one of his own towers at Peachtree Center in downtown. Designed by Portman a half-century ago, the office high-rise at 230 Peachtree St. had seen better days. However, after more than a year of work, the building has been granted new life as a 206-room Hotel Indigo. Few architects get the chance to remake a city once, and it's far rarer for one to reinvent his work in a city that's experienced so much change. The Atlanta Business Chronicle was at the ribbon cutting for the new hotel this week, where a tearful 91-year-old Portman proclaimed, "Yes, I'm in love with Atlanta — it's the greatest city in the world." And if that doesn't make you smile inside, there's something wrong with you.
