Decatur house with midcentury-modern flair aims for $179K

Touted as being 10 minutes from splendors of downtown D-town

Formerly a regular ol’ ranch, this 1955 property with a Decatur address is now marketed as being a "midcentury modern dream" within a 10-minute drive of Decatur’s thriving downtown.

Even for 1,078 square feet, the price represents a drastic discount versus standalone houses closer to Dee-cay-tur’s core, but it doesn’t include the coveted schools. The car-dependent Walk Score of 21 reflects its off-the-beaten path status.

Listed earlier this month at $179,900, this flip sits between Interstate 20 and the East Lake Golf Club in the Candler-McAfee section of DeKalb County. Recent transactions would hint that the area could be heating up. Back in June, for instance, this home sold for $71,000 — about $6,000 over asking.

It could be a solid option for a deal-hungry bachelor, bachelorette, or young couple seeking three bedrooms at tiny-one-bedroom-condo prices. With restored hardwoods galore, a modernized kitchen, and a fresh "floating" deck, "the home has been completely redesigned and renovated while keeping the characteristics of a midcentury home with clean lines and minimalist architecture design," the listing agent states.

East Atlanta, Kirkwood, and other neighborhoods have seen similar tactics with smaller ranches in recent years.
