Buckhead Place Transformation Ready for Prime Time

Aging shopping center on Piedmont Road is about to get more urban

A bustling corner in Buckhead is about to get a little busier. Tomorrow's News Today reports that Coro Realty Advisors plans to break ground on their mixed-use development on Piedmont Road, just north of Peachtree Road in Buckhead. Fronting Disco Kroger — which is also slated for a major transformation — the development will bring 170 residential units, 20,000 square feet of retail space and a Hampton Inn & Suites to what is arguably the core of the submarket, though Buckhead Village might have something to say about that.

While a proposal was first floated back in 2008, the project was resurrected post-Recession less than a year ago. Construction, slated to start in the coming months, will transform the existing Buckhead Place strip center into a dense mixed-use complex, though one scaled back from the level of development originally proposed.

While the decrease in density was enough to shepherd the project through city approvals, neighbors still worry traffic in the area is already too thick to support more development. Despite the concern, the Coro project is hardly the only one slated to bring more residents and visitors to the booming neighborhood.
