A dated Holiday Inn around the corner from Centennial Olympic Park is slated for a major overhaul and rebranding, signalling a continued swarm of investment in the neighborhood.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that Peachtree Hotel Group intends to transform the 21-year-old property into an AC Hotel. In the next couple of years, it could be the third AC Hotel in Atlanta. Construction is wrapping up at the standalone hotel off Peachtree Road near Phipps Plaza in Buckhead. While in Midtown, Noble Investment is hoping to bring a dual-branded property to 14th Street.
The project joins a growing list of both new and converted hotel projects in the neighborhood. A dual-branded Homewood Suites and Canopy by Hilton could bring 350 rooms to the west side of Centennial Olympic Park, while ground recently broke on a Springhill Suites behind the Aquarium.
Farther east, work is starting by Woodruff Park to convert the historic Candler Building into a hotel, while at Peachtree Center, a Hotel Indigo designed by John Portman recently opened.
Plans call for the work to start this summer, with the transformation complete by 2017. Bring on the tourists and business travelers with generous allowances.
