Two Restaurants Face the Wrath of Buckhead's Wrecking Ball

LaFonda and Fellini's in Garden Hills will be demolished and replaced by a larger new Fellini's

Two longtime Peachtree Road restaurants will reportedly soon be demolished in Buckhead. LaFonda and Fellini's in Garden Hills, next door to a site slated for a major new development, will be replaced by a larger restaurant space.

While Fellini's exit is only arrivederci for now, LaFonda will be saying adios for good. Owner of both restaurants, Clay Harper, told BuckheadView the decision came down to space. While the restaurants had operated there for years, the existing confines had grown too tight to keep both venues running.

The site has character, but it's ripe for redevelopment as the neighboring large parcel will be going through major changes of its own. Brand Properties is planning to erect a mixed-use building on the site of the former Garden Hills shopping center, which burned down at the end of 2013 and was later demolished.

Almost a year ago, Brand Properties unveiled a design for the site, which formerly housed a mini strip mall and movie theater. After enduring the ire of neighbors and heading back to the drawing board, a more palatable design was unveiled, which finally gained approvals to move forward earlier this year.

The restaurant will be designed by Stevens & Wilkinson, with plans slated to come up for approvals this summer.
