Way back in 2015, it seemed everywhere you turned in Atlanta, a new "mixed-use" project was rising, bringing apartments, retail, and even offices to every corner of the metro. While the mixed-use train is certainly still chugging, a newcomer to the development game has been making some serious inroads: loft offices.
In the last few months, we've covered at least five completed or planned loft office projects across the city, including Midtown, Old Fourth Ward, Buckhead (twice), and even Sandy Springs. And if it wasn't clear the trend is taking hold everywhere, a newly announced project downtown helps confirm the city's affection.
Called Mellen Lofts, the EpiCity project plans to bring what's billed as "authentic, creative office lofts" to Renaissance Parkway at Piedmont Avenue (the website claims Midtown, but the maps don't lie), in the shell of a midcentury mechanics garage.
When complete, the building could feature parking for cars and bikes, a communal break room, "enhanced restrooms" (?), shared breakout areas, and a rooftop deck with killer views of the downtown skyline.
The project is the vision of the same group that brought the city Lumberyard and Armour Junction.
