Pokémon Go: Invading Atlanta, Whether You Like it or Not

Tattoos, bar crawls, and gamers swarming the streets

Gotta catch ‘em all. Or don’t — there’s also that.
Pokemon Go

This Pokémon Go craze has gotten absolutely nuts.

Whether you’re an avid player boasting of the critters you’ve captured or a bystander just watching the madness from a safe distance, it’s hard to deny the ubiquity of this location-based augmented reality game.

Our fair city isn’t exempt. All types of Atlanta events have emerged that are centered around the new app, which makes use of GPS and camera features on mobile devices.

The organization Pokémon Go Atlanta hosts many of the gatherings. So blame them if Pokémon players have encroached on your lifestyle.

The AJC recently published a list of game-themed events in the area, including a promotional Six Flags Over Georgia meetup, Pokémon Go bar crawl, Pokémon Go tattoo day (yikes), and a 5K run. Some events happened over the weekend, while others are recurring.

Over in Gwinnett County, the city of Sugar Hill recently held a whole game-themed food truck event.

Elsewhere, a Pokémon Go Battle & Brew Meetup is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 31 to 2 a.m. Aug. 1 at 5920 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

And Pokémon Go Tattoo Day is from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 30 at Empyrean Tattoo. The business will be offering Pokémon Go tattoos starting at $50. (Careful folks: remember, this is — hopefully — just a short-lived trend).

Atlantans without a clue what this Pokémon hullabaloo is all about should have a look at the below images. They'll either provide a firm understanding as to what Pokémon visuals are — or trigger one horrific acid flashback.
