Decatur’s hip Whole Foods Market is barreling forward

Metro Atlanta's first 365 by Whole Foods Market concept will be cornerstone of much larger development

After months of back-and-forth community discussions, the plans for Georgia’s first 365 by Whole Foods Market concept have made the neighbors happy.

In a recent statement, the Decatur Heights Neighborhood Association announced its support for the entirety of North Decatur Square — a mixed-use overhaul at North Decatur Road and Church Street that will include multifamily residential, restaurants, and retail beyond Whole Foods.

The S.J. Collins Enterprises' project will claim a B-shaped site formerly occupied by Nalley Infiniti Decatur, adding to a development boom in the corridor that includes the new Selig Enterprises’ Walmart complex and Fuqua Development’s massive Decatur Crossing.

According to this snippet from the DHNA statement, the neighborhood board had walkable access to the site at top-of-mind while dealing with the developer, though walking around the project's parking lots might be less enjoyable:

The first 365 by Whole Foods was scheduled to open near Los Angeles this spring, followed by about 10 more between Oregon and Gainesville, Fla.

According to the developer, Decatur’s 89,000-square-foot outpost is on track to debut in summer 2018.
