Where North Druid Hills Road meets Interstate 85 in Brookhaven, work is commencing on a state-of-the-art medical facility for children.
Announced in 2015, the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) facility will fill the void left by the demolition of the Executive Park Motor Hotel, which met its explosive demise in 2014.
According to a press release, the building will house the hospital’s new Center for Advanced Pediatrics, which bring “complex care specialists, state-of-the-art technology and leading-edge research for outpatient pediatric care under one roof.”
The AJC reports the facility will officially break ground Wednesday, following delays and a scaling back of plans. Initially, the facility was planned to be an Ambulatory Center to encompass more than 300,000 square feet with completion coming by the end of this year.
Reasons for the changes were not made clear.

CHOA is not the only medical facility coming to the area.
Emory University, in partnership with the Atlanta Hawks, is constructing a sports medicine facility to serve the team’s new training complex.
Construction began last summer, and plans call for work to wrap up this year.
