At the southern reaches of Peachtree Road, demos signal start of projects

January 2017 is shaping up to be a destructive time in the southern reaches of Buckhead, along Peachtree Road.

According to Skyline Views, the old Sheffield Medical Building at Collier Road will be brought down to allow for the construction of Piedmont Hospital’s new Marcus Heart and Vascular Center.

Announced back in February, the $600-million project will bring a swanky 16-story facility to the southern edge of the Piedmont Hospital campus.

The modern glass building will replace the seven-story Sheffield Medical office tower, which has stood on the site since the 1960s.

Meanwhile, across the street, demolition is proceeding on a range of one-story retail spaces in preparation for construction of a seven-story medical office building, with senior housing and street-front retail.

The Cornerstone Medical Center will replace the long-abandoned (and now demolished) Harry’s in a Hurry, a liquor store, a dry cleaner, and Chick-fil-A.

For those craving chicken sandwiches in South Buckhead, the developer promises Chick-fil-A will return to the new building.
